History of Highland Cemetery
Highland Cemetery is comprised of 50 acres with 17 acres developed as an active cemetery. Twenty
three acres remain wooded and natural forest within the city limits.
The founder, Philip Price (1802-1870) had vast land holdings in Lock Haven and he had a vision
for a Public Cemetery and in the 1860's, this vision became true with first burial interred in 1863.
Highland Cemetery was created by Act of Incorporation, signed by A.G.Curtin, on March 14 A.D.
1862. We celebrated our 150th Birthday in 2012.
We are a non-profit Volunteer run Cemetery Company. Sustaining such a cemetery in operation is
quite a financial struggle, and we are always looking for new members and volunteers and financial
donations. Any lot owner carries the right to vote in any of the decisions made at the board meetings.
Our bylaws require us to hold two meetings a year. However, we have an energetic board and have been meeting monthly, below is a listing of the 2016 Board of Directors Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Rebecca Gross Romm in the Ross Library located at 232 W. Main Street in Lock Haven, PA.
